People are a collection of stories. A collection of moments, birthmarks, and scars from that time that squash exploded in their oven. This is Elizabeth. She's a remarkable storyteller, and she has a lot to tell. She's been my friend since grade school, and with each new story she tells, I feel like I connect with her more. Making connections with people is important, both with photography, and withΒ life. Connections are what make my photographs personal to me, and more treasured. They give a purpose to the picture.
After hearing more of Elizabeth's stories, I wanted to take those words, and somehow transform them into art. That way I could remember them, remember the mood, and the sort of dreaminess that comes with stories. Elizabeth is the kind of person who gives it her all, goes all in, and comes out shining. I wanted to capture that essence in these photographs.
Sometimes I think I see things around me through a slightly dreamier filter. I think we all have our own filters, and when we look at the world, we see it as such. That's what is so rad about photography. You can showΒ others what your eyes see. Thank you for letting me photograph you, Elizabeth, and for sharing your stories with me.
much love, Marilyn
