This summer was a wild kind of heaven. A beautiful mixture of chaos and peace. The answer to a question I hadn't even fully formulated. I'd been stuck in a rut in the city, and knew I needed a dose of nature, but what I got was so much more. Bearskin Meadow Camp is a summer camp for children living with type 1 diabetes, nestled in the mountains of Sequoia National Forest. My partner Leah has been telling me stories of this place for years, about the beauty of the Sierras, and the people that she's met. This year I made the decision to join her up in the mountains. I wanted to see what this place had in store for me. I wanted to gain hands-on experience with type 1, and learn about the condition that affects Leah's life every single day. I wanted to do something new, to sleep under the stars for the first time, to go to summer camp, and teach arts & crafts to kids of all ages. So I went, and now looking back I can lovingly say it was one of the best decisions I've made in a very long time. I made a video of my experience, and took an abundance of photographs.
