20 years
I turned 20 years old yesterday! I am beyond excited to enter this new decade of my life. Turning 20 is a beautiful breath of fresh air, as if to say "hey, I survived my teenage years." Of course there will be new challenges. Studying in Europe, finding jobs, adulthood, there's just SO MUCH to face. But that's why I choose to begin on a positive note. I am so blessed to have the chance to document it.
I woke up in my cozy little apartment in New York and had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with my favorite human being, Leah Cohen. I ate the best banana bread I've ever tasted in my entire life at brunch. We watched Shakespeare performed in Washington Square Park, strolled through Brooklyn and took in the glorious view of the city we call home. I got lavender ice cream from my favorite parlor, and felt the wonderful exhaustion that comes from a day well spent.
flying home the next day
20 years feels like such a solid milestone. I've been on this earth for 20 years. I can't quite wrap my head around it. It's an amazing feeling to think that I have this day to celebrate my life itself. 20 years ago I was opening my eyes to the first glimpse of my life. 15 years ago I was toddling my way through the gardens of The Netherlands. 5 years ago I was a short, red-headed high-schooler, utterly obsessed with The Hunger Games. Today I am still molding myself, still figuring out what I am.
I am a pink-haired photographer, calling New York City my home. Life is always changing, and it seems I am so enthralled with this realization. I take birthdays as a perfect opportunity to stop and say my thanks for all the things I love in my world. Thank you for reading my blog and looking at my photographs. Each photo is so personal to me, as it is my life, and I'm so thankful I can share it.
Here is to a new decade of adventures, and photographs to go along with them.
xoxo, Marilyn
