21st in Joshua Tree

I'm not sure what I pictured my 21st birthday to be. Five years ago I might have pictured a party with lots of cake, and probably no alcohol. Two years I pictured some kind of celebration in New York City.

But the day was different than anything I had foreseen. I was in California, road tripping to Joshua Tree National Park with my girlfriend, and her mom. It was so much more spontaneous, yet care free, than any of my other birthdays, and I’m wildly grateful.

Leah and I flew from New York to San Francisco, and from there we met up with her mom and the three of us packed up to head south. Being in the desert after spending the past few months packed tightly in New York City was liberating. We hiked, climbed rocks, and watched the most beautiful sunsets. It was an inspiring change of scenery, and certainly a rad place to turn 21.

Traveling is one of the most rewarding gifts, and 21 is off to an inspiring start.
